FRIENDS OF THOMASTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Only approximately 40% of the Thomaston Public Library’s operating expenses are covered by contributions from the Town of Thomaston, . The Friends of Thomaston Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization whose goal is to raise the remaining 60% to support the financial health, mission, and programming of the Library.
The Friends is a voluntary organization, which raises money in a variety of ways:
- Annual Appeal
- Sale of books at our Hallway Bookshop and Camden National Bank
- Friday Night Films
- Bake sales and spaghetti suppers
- Friday Night Films
- Special events
In recent years, funds raised by the Friends have helped to provide the following for Thomaston Public Library:
- 40 Days of Summer, the annual lunch and activities program
- Assistance with the Library’s operating expenses
- Lease of Community Conference Room in the Academy Building
- Twice-weekly Senior Exercise Class
- Furniture
- Heat pumps for the Academy Building
- Kitchenette for the library
- Computers and Kindle eReaders
- Outdoor and indoor speaker systems
We welcome anyone who is interested in joining a group of dedicated volunteers to support the Thomaston Public Library. Our quarterly meetings are open to all who may want to get involved! If you are interested in becoming a member, please email library@thomastonmaine.gov for more information.
